Actor's Meet and Greet: Roman Poláčik Inspired MYP Theater Students
Bratislava, May 20, 2026 – Bilingual Gymnasium Česká welcomed prominent Slovak actor Roman Poláčik as part of the MYP Theater class. The two-hour discussion event titled Actor's Meet and Greet became an unforgettable experience for the students.
Roman Poláčik, a graduate of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava and a member of the Drama Ensemble of the Slovak National Theatre (SND), was born in Trstená. Already during his studies, he guested at renowned theaters such as Arena, Štúdio 12, and SND. He is known to audiences from films like The Confidant (2012), The Interpreter (2018), and Happy New Year (2019), as well as numerous TV series (Oteckovia, Dunaj, to je moja rieka, and others).
During the two hours, he openly shared his journey to acting, what the actor's work truly involves both on stage and behind the camera, and emphasized that acting is not just school, but life itself. He spoke about the importance of authenticity, empathy, and constant preparation. Students had the opportunity to ask questions about the challenges of the profession, handling emotions, and dealing with failures and internal theater politics.
Quotes:
"I don't have a traditional week. I know it's Sunday because that's when I have to call my mom."
"Not a dog, but a book is man's best friend. You can always carry it with you and open it at any time."
"Open your social media and look at the first three stories that pop up. It's important to be able to talk to people even without a phone in your hand. Try just sitting down during one break and having a conversation without phones — see how it feels."
"A young person might think that's how it works, but in reality, it's completely different. They see successful actors in articles, but that's only a small percentage — the very tip of the pyramid."
The meeting had a very practical dimension – Poláčik demonstrated improvisation techniques, gave advice on character work, and shared personal experiences from filming and rehearsals. Many students left inspired and motivated to further develop their talent in theater.
The event confirmed that personal encounters with professionals play an irreplaceable role in arts education.
